vintage vegas

Wow. I haven’t updated the blog in a bit. My apologies! I’m living in San Francisco at the moment and really soaking up the city. I’ve been posting on Instagram quite regularly, so feel free to follow me there ^  Here’s some pics from a weekend visiting friends in Las Vegas. Absolutely must check out the Neon Museum while you’re there!

Before + After: Julia’s Bedroom Makeover

Oooooo well that’s quite lovely! But hold up, before we get ahead of ourselves, please allow me to show you some scary before pictures:

Those are some creepy blood red walls ladies and gentlemen. This tiny room was in serious need of a colour refresh and some styling and organization. The bones of the room were staying as well as pretty much all of the furniture. Ideally a room I’m designing isn’t so matchy-matchy with the furniture set but it was great quality and pretty brand new so obviously it was staying. This really was a quick painting/shopping/styling job but it made SUCH a huge difference.

The room in question happens to belong to my little sister, which made it pretty easy since she’s very laid back and trusts my opinion 100% when it comes to design. Got to love that in a client. We discussed ideas beforehand and agreed that most importantly it needed to be lighter and brighter. Here’s a link to the pinterest board we had going for inspiration ideas. We also wanted to display some of my sister’s beautiful pictures from her trip to Europe.

Let’s be honest, really almost anything would have been better than that chaotic red, but we’re both so pleased with how it turned out.

I re-used a lot of what she had and just tried to make it brighter but still relaxing. My sister is all about yoga and meditation so we wanted the space to reflect that and just be a calm and centering space for her. I lent her some of my artwork including a blue painting I did a few years back plus some other items for the shoot. I would kill to have a West Elm/Ikea in my city, but I think we made it work regardless. I love the vibe of this room now, what do you guys think?
